BLACKS NEED VITAMIN 'D' TO FOR CANCER PREVENTION

Poor Survival Among African American Cancer Patients Could Be Explained by Low Vitamin D Levels

The authors of a review published in the April/May/June 2012 issue of the journal Dermato-Endocrinology suggest that decreased production of vitamin D by African Americans may be a reason for their higher rates of cancer mortality in comparison with Caucasians.

William B. Grant of the Sunlight, Nutrition and Health Research Center in San Francisco and Alan N. Peiris of Mountain Home Veterans Administration Medical Center and East Tennessee State University write that various factors have been suggested to explain African Americans' increased likeliness of dying from a variety of cancers, including cancer stage at time of diagnosis, socioeconomic status and differences in treatment. The incidence of many of these cancers or the risk of dying from them has been associated in numerous studies with reduced sun exposure and/or lower serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels. 

Because African Americans have a 40 percent lower serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration than Caucasians due to darker skin pigmentation that impairs production of the vitamin from sunlight, Drs. Grant and Peiris suggest a causative role for insufficient vitamin D levels in the decreased survival observed in this group. The current review evaluates scientific literature concerning cancer disparities between African Americans and Caucasians, as well as studies examining vitamin D status and cancer in order to evaluate the evidence supporting this hypothesis.

Seventeen studies concerning the association between vitamin D adequacy or deficiency and cancer recurrence and survival were included in the review. Significant associations between higher vitamin D levels and cancer survival were found in studies that analyzed all cancers as well as those that evaluated breast, colon, colorectal, lung and prostate cancers, and lymphocytic leukemia/chronic lymphocytic lymphoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Also reviewed were 37 studies that examined cancer mortality rate disparities not explained by known factors for 25 types of cancer occurring among African Americans and Caucasians. "Statistically significant disparities emerged for cancer-specific survival rates for 13 types of cancer: bladder, breast, colon, endometrial, lung (non-small cell, stage III, IV), ovarian (advanced), pancreatic, prostate, rectal, testicular, vaginal cancer, Hodgkin lymphoma, stage II, and melanoma," the authors report. "All cancers for which a disparity in cancer-specific survival was reported also have evidence for a beneficial role of vitamin D, as do most of those for which we found disparities for all-cause survival."

Because cancer takes years to reach a stage in which it can be detected, high serum vitamin D concentrations over the course of a lifetime are needed to reduce risk, the authors note. Once the disease has been diagnosed, vitamin D improves survival via antiangiogenic and antimetastatic mechanisms, as well as by other factors. In addition to reduced production of vitamin D by the skin, obesity (which occurs more often among African Americans compared to Caucasians) could also account for some of the lower levels of vitamin D that occur in this population, since having a higher body mass index has been correlated with decreased vitamin D status.

"Lower serum 25(OH)D concentrations among African Americans than white Americans may explain many of the cancer survival disparities after consideration of socioeconomic status, stage at time of diagnosis, and treatment," the authors conclude. "If substantially correct, programs to increase serum 25(OH)D concentrations among African Americans could reduce the cancer disparities."

GNC and Vitamin Shoppe informed me that normal people should be taking 2,000 IU to 4,000 IU of Vitamin D (same as vitamin D3, the best absorbed form), a DAY! Ladies, take your Vitamin D.  I take 4,000 IU a day... for LIFE!  The darker your skin color the harder it is to absord Vitamin D through sunlight.  Black women NEED VITAMIN D!

CANCER HATES OXYGEN

After perusing a ton of medical research and clinical studies online, I discovered that cancer is prevented and reversed in a highly oxygenated environment.  In other words, cancer hates oxygen.  My tips?
  • Are you breathing properly?  Most people stop breathing when they are angry, or hold their breath when they are stressed out without even realizing it!  Some people even stop breathing when they are sitting at a computer!  Are you? The past eight months I was in a highly stressful environment and noticed I was hyperventilating more often than I realized!  Really try to monitor your breathing!  You might be surprised by your own habits.
  • The best way to breathe?  Deep diaphragm breathing.  When you breathe in, your belly should expand.  When you breathe out, your belly should come back in.  That is how you should practice breathing.  This is how a baby breathes when born!  Unfortunately, this unnatural world has stressed us out to the point where we no longer breathe naturally.  Return to nature!
  • If your shoulders rise up when you are breathing in, that's not right! That's stress! 
  • Practice meditation and deep breathing atleast 10-20 minutes a day.
  • Again, our bodies get a ton of oxygen when we exercise-- this is why exercise is so important for our immune system and our health!

COOKING DESTROYS FOLIC ACID, AND LOW LEVELS OF FOLIC ACID ARE LINKED TO PERSISTENT HPV INFECTIONS!

  • Avoid alcohol--it also destroys folic acid in your body!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Fruits and veggies should be eaten raw as much as possible, because cooking destroys folic acid!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • You now have the power to change your diagnosis.  It comes down to willpower and the faith that a healthy diet plus jogging around the block for twenty minutes a day can make you healthy again!!!!!!!  Use the information found on this blog.  I promise it will change your life!!!!!!!! It's time to stop hurting ourselves and start HEALING ourselves!!!!! What's sad is that most women don't even know how much hurt we cause our bodies when we eat junk food!!!!!!!! We always hear that "fruits and veggies are good for you," but you don't realize just how LIFE-SAVING fruits and veggies are--especially RAW fruits and veggies--- until you come down with a high risk infection!  Trust me! It will change your LIFE!
  • Say NO to all fast food.  I have stopped eating all fast foods, including McDonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut, etc. I will only go to Subway Restaurant to get a 6" veggie sub with all the veggies and not the fake veggie meat pack thing.  
  • Say NO to all sodas.  I only drink water, juice or almond milk (I'm a fan of those Soy Milk brands now). I'm also very picky with the juice that I drink.  I like the Naked Juice (Green) or Bolthouse Farms Juice (Berry, or Amazing Mango).  These juices are high in vitamins.  
  • Whenever you buy ANY food, you need to start asking yourself--- WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME AND MY HEALTH? Always read the nutrition labels. If the above portion passes the test (low/no fat, low calorie, and low sugar), then check to see if the bottom part has Vitamin A, C, E, D, K, or B vitamins.  If there are no vitamins in what you are about to consume, you are CHEATING yourself and it's not worth it--- UNLESS it's water. Plain and simple.  No diet cokes, None of that.  No fake sugars. That stuff feeds cancer. Remember-- you need to be smart.  You are FIGHTING an illness.
  • Make yourself feel like you truly live close to the farm and eat 100% raw fruits and veggies" as much as you possibly can.  The key to getting your health back is to eat in an extremely natural way, in our extremely unnatural world. Think of it as detoxing your body, as cleansing your body of all unnatural, processed, and chemically altered foods.
  • Take daily supplements to make sure you are covering all your vitamins for the day!   
  • Most importantly, STAY SLIM.  Fat has 100 times more toxins than muscle.  These toxins prevent you from getting clear of the virus.  TAKE THE FAT OFF YOUR BODY! Those toxins, glucose, and sugars feed cancer and keep it living in your body.

What's the BEST THING a high risk HPV Woman Can Snack On?

RAW BRUSSEL SPROUTS!  BROCCOLI.  ASPARAGUS. UNCOOKED. UNPROCESSED. 100% RAW.

WHY?  Because it's high in Vitamins A, C, E, and is also high in Folic Acid (folate)!!!  Snacking on brussel sprouts gets all the vitamins you need in just one bite. (Broccoli and asparagus are great alternatives too!)  The fact of the matter is, this vegetable is targeted to our needs and amazingly I noticed I felt much better just within four days of snacking on raw brussel sprouts all day.  


Ladies, please remember that persistent HPV infection is linked to low levels in Folic Acid and B12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I know black women freak out when they Google:  "black women and hpv" because we see all these studies saying negative things about black women and HPV and they also claim it is more difficult for us to clear the virus!  Have FAITH!  Don't get sucked into it!  There are absolutely no racial or biological reasons that one woman cannot clear the virus-- the fact of the matter is we need more vitamins A, C, E, D, folic acid and B12, etc, and need to stay away from stress so that we can breathe normally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your Daily Vitamin Regimen

SUGGESTED DAILY REGIMEN FOR THE FIRST THREE MONTHS, OR AS LONG AS YOUR "HPV POSITIVE/ASCUS" RESULT PERSISTS: 

I have done a lot of research on this and this is the protocol for women recently diagnosed with high risk HPV.  Finding my site will save you time, so you can start your regimen NOW! Don't "watch and wait" for your situation to get worse!

  • Folic Acid Tablet 3200 mcg (the same as 3.2 mg) for as long as abnormal paps persist.  Some women with HPV take as high as 10,000 mcg (10mg) a day. I was taking 3200 mcg, and then later changed to 6,000 mcg and felt way better. I will do this for one month, and then the second month move down to 1600 to 3200 mcg.  Third month maybe just 1000 mcg extra (outside of multivitamin and b complex tablet).   Ladies with CIN2 or CIN3 may want to take a dosage high near 10mg. I am doing this regimen on my own without a doctor and am keeping it at 3200 mcg for the first month, 1600 mcg the second month, and 800 mcg for life.  I also get a lot of folic acid throughout the day with my veggies and fruits.
  • Vitamin D Supplement!!! You need to be getting atleast 4,000-5,000 IU a day, especially with an HPV infection.  Also known as Vitamin D-3.  Everyone is Vitamin D deficient.  We need more so that we can fight this virus!!!
  • Vitamin C capsule, take up to 3 mg a day!  Usually tablet has 1 mg, or 1,000 mcg.  Take this twice a day if possible, try to get 2,000 mcg of Vitamin C a day-- because remember you are FIGHTING an illness.  Or just eat extra fruits in veggies with vitamin C, but atleast get 1 mg of Vitamin C through the supplement.
  • Vitamin A (Beta Carotene) capsule.  Vitamin A is CRUCIAL to healing so remember to take this each day. 
  • B Complex  capsule.  All the B vitamins are important for clearing HPV, but especially folic acid (B9) and B12. 
  • Vitamin E capsule.  There is a product called Beta Mannan that you can get from http://alotek.com/ and for HPV positive women they recommend.  But you can also choose any Vitamin E brand.  Just make sure you get this tablet. 
  • Green Tea Extract capsule, 200-725 mcg.  I recommend a decaffeinated tablet. Green Tea has natural healing properties! There has been research that showed women who took green tea suppositories or green tea extract orally were able to clear HPV more quickly.
  • DIM-Plus (BioResponse) (sold by "Nature's Way) or DIM Activamune at www.activamune.com. Take a total of 2 capsules, twice daily.  Total 4 capsules daily. This has been praised as one of the supplements that can help combat HPV.
